LOS ANGELES – MARCH 24, 2026 – Street Food Cinema (SFC) will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the beloved romantic comedy “The Broken Hearts Club,” with a benefit screening at West Hollywood Park. The event on Saturday, April 25, is presented by Pride House LA/West Hollywood (PH LA/WeHo) and will feature a cast discussion with Billy Porter, Zach Braff, director and writer Greg Berlanti, and producer Mickey Liddell, moderated by Jess Cagle. Proceeds will support PH LA/WeHo and Team OutAF, uplifting LGBTQIA+ athletes. Originally released in 2000, “The Broken Hearts Club” marked the directorial debut of Greg Berlanti, who would go on to become one of Hollywood’s most influential television producers. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival before receiving a theatrical release later that year and has since earned cult-classic status for its heartfelt portrayal of chosen family within Los Angeles’ LGBTQ+ community.

Set in West Hollywood, the story follows a close-knit group of gay friends navigating relationships, ambition and heartbreak. Anchored by bar owner Jack, played by John Mahoney, the ensemble cast includes Timothy Olyphant, Zach Braff, Billy Porter, Justin Theroux and Jennifer Coolidge, among others. The film was an early screen credit for several cast members who would later achieve mainstream success, and it remains notable for presenting LGBTQ+ lives in a studio-backed romantic comedy at a time when such representation was rare. Filmed in part on location in West Hollywood, the production captured a snapshot of the neighborhood at the turn of the millennium. Over the years, “The Broken Hearts Club” has endured as a touchstone for audiences who see their own friendships reflected on screen.

“We are honored that Street Food Cinema has chosen to screen ‘The Broken Hearts Club,’ and beyond thrilled that the screening will benefit PH LA/WeHo and the Out Athlete Fund,” said Greg Berlanti and Mickey Liddell. “At its heart, this film is about friendship and found family within the LGBTQIA+ community and finding love and support during both challenging and celebratory times. This ragtag group of friends may not be the most skilled at softball, but they are pros at showing up for each other and the game, much like PH LA/WeHo and the OutAF fund show up for the community. We cannot wait to revisit the film with everyone and look forward to supporting these organizations that champion inclusion and LGBTQIA+ excellence in sports.”

Presented by PH LA/WeHo, the screening underscores the organization’s commitment to celebrating LGBTQ+ culture and community. PH LA/WeHo will serve as the largest LGBTQ+ fan and cultural experience during the 2028 Summer Games, transforming the city into a global hub for sport, culture and connection. Partnering on this anniversary event reflects the film’s enduring local and cultural significance.
