‘There’s No Crying At Pride’ celebrates women in sports

A June 21 screening of A League Of Their Own at The Autry

Pride House LA/West Hollywood, a project of the nonprofit Out Athlete Fund elevating athletes and events to support the LGBTQ community, will host a special Pride Month event this Saturday, June 21, at The Autry Museum, celebrating women’s sports.

“There’s No Crying At Pride” will feature an outdoor screening of the 1992 classic film A League Of Their Own, which showcases the story of women’s professional baseball in the 1940s. The film stars Madonna, Rosie O’Donnell, Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Lori Petty and many others.

98-year-old Maybelle Blair, who played in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League that inspired the film, will be on-hand to celebrate the evening. She will also be presented with proclamations from the state and county recognizing her contributions.

Other special guests are expected to include State Senator Caroline Menjivar (SD-20), State Assemblymember Rick Chavez Zbur (AD 51), West Hollywood Councilmember Lauren Meister, and Patti Pelton, an actress from the film.

The Autry Museum is located in Griffith Park at 4700 Western Heritage Way. The event will also include food trucks and music by DJ Buck/Off.

Tickets start at $30 and can be purchased at https://www.sponsorpridehouse.org/event-details.
