Breezy is a member of the inaugural Team OutAF, a group of six out LGBTQ+ athletes competing in the Milan Winter Olympics and Paralympics. We caught up with her and asked her five questions ahead of the Winter Games. Since then, she has become a gold-medalist in the Super G, winning the first American gold at the 2026 Games. Congrats Breezy!
Breezy Johnson, Alpine Skiing
Originally from Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where she learned to ski in her driveway at age 3, Breezy Johnson is a two-time World Champion for the United States in Alpine Skiing. She was actually born Breanna Johnson, but also at 3, her parents legally changed her name to Breezy, her popular nickname even at that age.
On The US Ski Team since 2014, this will be the second time she has qualified for the Winter Olympics. Injury derailed her 2022 season, and while she qualified for those Games, she selflessly gave up her spot to a teammate.
Team OutAF: Other than competing, what are you most looking forward to in Milan?
Breezy Johnson: I’m looking forward to finally having my family and friends at the Games. And showing them around Cortina and Europe (And my favorite pizza place in Cortina, al Passetto).
Team OutAF: Is there anyone you hope you get to meet?
Breezy: I try not to bother celebrities but anyone that wants to meet me and talk I would love to. Maybe talking to Drew Barrymore
Team OutAF: What's your favorite sports memory?
Breezy: My favorite sports memory is probably hugging Mikaela [Shiffrin] after we won the Team Combined at the World Championships last February
Team OutAF: What does it mean to you to be out and proud?
Breezy: For me being out and proud is about seeing and hearing kids that feel more comfortable being themselves since hearing my story. Those people mean a lot to me.
Team OutAF: Who's your favorite LGBTQ+ athlete and why?
Breezy: Probably Gus Kenworthy, he really brought LGBTQ+ to the winter sports world and paved the way for so many people. But also Anja Paerson because she was the first openly gay ski racer and I looked up to her so much as a kid.
